Freezing rain warning issued

If you’re planning on driving anywhere tonight, you might want to reconsider.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the B.C. Interior tonight and into Thursday.

An approaching warm front will track across the B.C. interior on Thursday.

The warm air aloft combined with below zero temperatures at the surface will result in periods of freezing rain overnight into Thursday morning. The freezing rain is expected to change to rain Thursday afternoon as temperatures rise above zero.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
