Burns Lake students headed to WE Day

Educator Patti Dube and 14 Burns Lake students received the surprise of a lifetime this week.

During a school-wide volleyball pep rally it was announced they will be flying with WestJet to WE Day in Vancouver on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Dube and her students were recognized for their outstanding local and global actions undertaken over the last school year.

“We’re excited to go to WE Day Vancouver and very thankful to WestJet for helping to help make the trip happen,” said Dube. “My students work hard all year to raise awareness on issues they are passionate about so to be able to celebrate with them in Vancouver will be incredible.”

As an educator Dube has been inspiring students at the school for over 30 years to find social issues they are passionate about and helping them take action to create real change in their local community and beyond.

“Through the WestJet We Day Experience, we were thrilled to be able play a part in Lakes District students attending WE Day Vancouver,” said Jenifer Badry, WestJet Team Lead Community Investment and Sponsorship. “Through their caring actions and positive contributions to their classmates and community, these students have truly earned this experience and we look forward to their inspiring actions being celebrated at the event.”
