Theatre NorthWest taking applications for apprenticeship program

The application process for Theatre NorthWest’s apprenticeship program is now open.

This professional arts training initiative is undertaken with the support of the Community Arts Council of Prince George and District.

Last year’s apprentice was Melissa Glover who assisted with the production of the smash hit Million Dollar Quartet. Since completing the program, Glover has been invited to participate in the prestigious Michael Langham Workshop at the Stratford Festival, where she will be assisting directing in one of the festival’s plays during the fall 2019 season.

Glover is one of only seven emerging directors from across Canada, and the only individual from B.C., to be selected to participate in this three-week-long program that also includes tutorials, tours, shows and social events. Melissa will be assisting directing with Canadian actor/director Jennifer Stewart, who has been associated with the Stratford Festival for several decades.

“We are thrilled with the success that Melissa is experiencing in developing her directing career, particularly with the amazing opportunity that she will be receiving in Stratford,” said Marnie Hamagami, executive director at TNW. “In addition to having Prince George’s Anna Russell direct our upcoming production of Ring of Fire: The Johnny Cash Story, the 2019 Apprenticeship Program will facilitate another talented local individual gain a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience for the duration of a production.”

“At the community arts council, our vision is to turn Prince George into a recognized centre of creativity,” said Sean Farrell, executive director of the CAC. “Helping to ensure that we have a robust professional arts sector alongside our thriving local community arts groups will help us reach our goal of putting Prince George on the cultural map.”

In order to apply, interested candidates must be residents of Prince George, be a minimum age of 19 and be available for a full-time contract position of approximately three to eight weeks depending on the production and the roll of the apprentice.

To apply, candidates should email a cover letter (maximum two pages) describing what the individual would like to gain from the apprenticeship experience, as well as a CV. The application deadline is October 31st . Applications should be emailed to, subject: Apprenticeship Program.
