Alexander heroics not enough as Silverbacks drop Spruce Kings 1-0

Jett Alexander was sensational, making 29 saves, but it was not enough as the Salmon Arm Silverbacks edge the Prince George Spruce Kings by 1-0 score.

There was not much going for either team in the opening frame as neither club had many Grade A chances in the first ten minutes of the game. Both clubs traded power-plays in the later going off the frame, but nothing doing as it was scoreless after 20 minutes.

In the second period, it was the Silverbacks starting the scoring as defenseman Hunter Sansbury received a pass from Akito Hirsoe to put it past the glove side of Alexander to give Salmon Arm a 1-0 lead. Prince George had a couple of late chances in the second, but was unable to solve Silverbacks goaltender Ethan Langenengger. The Silverbacks took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room after two periods.

In the final frame, the Spruce Kings had numerous chances, but it was again the Silverbacks goaltender shutting the door, keeping the Spruce Kings off the scoreboard. A scary moment in the game as Fin Williams of the Spruce Kings and Drew Bennett of Salmon had a collision along the boards, resulting Williams to leave the game and not return. Tom Richter had the best chance of the night for PG as he picked off a pass from Hirose, but was robbed by Langenegger to keep PG off the scoreboard for 60 minutes as Salmon Arm skates to 1-0 win.

Next up for the Spruce Kings are the divisional rivals in the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday night. It will be Cancer Awareness Night as the Spruce Kings will be wearing some special jerseys.
