Firearms targeted in residential break and enter

Firearms were the likely goal of a break and enter at a local residence Monday afternoon.

The break and enter at occurred at a home on Summit Street, near the intersection of Ospika Boulevard and Rainbow Drive in Prince George.

Sometime during the day, one or more suspects forcibly entered the home and removed a large gun safe that was secured to a wall.  Three handguns and one long gun were secured in the safe at the time of the theft.

Investigators believe that the residence and the safe was targeted by the suspect(s) in order to steal the firearms.  The culprit(s) were likely in the residence for a considerable amount of time while they worked to remove the safe.  The investigation is continuing.

“Guns were clearly targeted in this break and enter,” said Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.  “Every gun owner should take all precautions to secure their firearms and should refrain from discussing locations and details of their guns with others.”
