It wasn’t the night the Prince George Spruce were hoping for, falling 3-0 in the hands of the Trail Smoke Eaters. This was Trail’s third straight win of the season, improving their record to 3-5-1, while the Spruce Kings fall to 3-4-2.
In the opening frame, there was just one goal to show for as Michael Collela fired home a picture perfect shot on goaltender Jett Alexander to give the Smoke Eaters the lead at 15:09. The Collela marker also came on the power-play.
In the second period, the Smoke Eaters held the Spruce Kings without a shot in the first seven minutes of the period. At 16:04, it was the Smokies doubling their lead. Forward Colby Elmer got the puck and wrapped it around the goal on the glove side, sneaking it past Alexander to give Trail a 2-0 lead. The Spruce Kings lost forward Fin Williams as he was called for a check from behind, resulting in a 2 minute minor and a game misconduct.
In the third period, the Smoke Eaters offensive continued. Right winger Liam Freeborn got a great feed from Collela in the back door for an easy tap in to give Trail a 3-0 lead in the final frame. That was all that was needed as the Smoke Eaters defeated the Spruce Kings by a 3-0 score.
Next up for the Spruce Kings is the BCHL Showcase presented by Bauer as they take on the West Kelowna Warriors on Friday at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton. That one gets started at 10:00 AM on Friday morning. Prince George then will have a rematch with the same Trail Smoke Eaters Saturday afternoon at 1:00 also at the SOEC.
For Friday morning’s game, you can catch all of the action on 93.1 CFIS or HockeyTV. Pre-game will start at 9:45 with play by play coming at 10. For Saturday afternoons game, you can catch the action on HockeyTV or on the Spruce Kings Mixlr audio feed. For any questions or concerns, call the Spruce Kings office at 250-564-1747.
