Spruce Kings thump Bulldogs

Home sweet home. The Prince George Spruce Kings soared to an 8-2 victory tonight against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at the RMCA in front of 844 strong.

In the opening frame, it was the Bulldogs who began the scoring. Ryan Doolin received a great feed from Dawson Tritt at 3:33 of the period to put Alberni up 1-0. It did not take long for the Spruce Kings to answer; defenseman Brendan Hill fired a shot from the blue line that went top corner to knot things up at one. That was Hill’s first BCHL goal. Exactly three minutes later, the dangerous line of Fin Williams, Chong Min Lee, and Nick Poisson connected. A beautiful tic-tac toe to Poisson in a yawning cage to give Prince George the lead. 2-1 Spruce Kings after 20 minutes.

In the second period, it took only sixteen seconds for the Spruce Kings to add to the lead. Nick Poisson went top cheddar in transition on goaltender Jackson Glassford to give the Spruce Kings a 3-1 lead. PG continued to throw on the pressure.

At 3:28, Tom Richter whacked home his first BCHL goal past the glove side of Glassford to give the Spruce Kings a 4-1 lead. The Spruce Kings then headed to a four-minute power play, and they made it count. Corey Cunningham redirected a Chong Min Lee shot in the high slot through the wickets of Glassford to put PG up 5-1. On the same power play, Fin Williams tucked one in on the blocker side of Glassford to give the Spruce Kings a 6-1 lead. The Spruce Kings were not done. Newly added Mason Waite, got a feed from Lee and Waite made no mistake to put Prince George up 7-1. Not even a minute later, it was Hill once again whose shot through traffic did not touch a thing and gave Prince George a whopping 8-1 lead after two periods.

In the third, there was just one goal to show for, as it was forward Jacob Bosse who scored his first of the season at 6:20 of the third. The assists came from Grayson Valente and Isaac Pascoal.

The Spruce Kings now improve to 3-3-2 on the young season. Next up for Prince George are the Trail Smoke Eaters tomorrow night at the RMCA.
