The redevelopment of part of a City Park in the Blackburn neighbourhood of Prince George is well underway and the City of Prince George and the Blackburn Community Association anticipate a fall grand opening. Crews with the Canadian Ramp Company are installing a bicycle playground and associated equipment now that the Park’s concrete foundation has been poured.

Blackburn RE/MAX All Wheels Adventure Park is located in Blackburn Park, adjacent to the Blackburn Community Centre and Blackburn Elementary School. The Park, which will feature a dirt bike track, ramps, rails, and public washroom facilities is anticipated to be completed by September, 2019.

“This project has been made possible by the commitment of many community volunteers, and financial contributors, such as RE/MAX Centre City Realty and the City of Prince George,” said Jamie Kranrod, treasurer and past chair of the Blackburn Community Association, in a news release. “We are also extremely grateful for the construction contractors who pulled together to help make the park a reality. The community association looks forward to proudly displaying the new park sign, which will include all the partners who contributed to this effort, and to opening this new community space for everyone to enjoy.”

The City of Prince George has provided $90,000 towards the project, while the community association has raised more than $182,000 including a $120,000 commitment from RE/MAX Centre City Realty for park equipment, as well as more than $300,000 in in-kind sponsorships and donations. Upon completion, the new park will be a city asset and will be maintained by city parks staff. The Blackburn Community Association continues to fundraise for even more park amenities including additional skate park equipment.

“Council is eagerly anticipating Prince George’s latest park development and looking forward to celebrating the grand opening this fall in the Blackburn neighbourhood with residents,” said Mayor Lyn Hall. “We recognize that bringing the project this far has taken a huge effort by a lot of people and we can’t wait to see the end result, which will be a beautiful and exciting new park for all to enjoy.”
