A section of Victoria Street has been closed since yesterday morning as crews with the City of Prince George work to repair a broken culvert that destabilized a section of road earlier this week. Victoria Street is completely closed to traffic for about half a block south of Milburn Avenue.
The damaged section of asphalt was reported to the City on Wednesday evening. Crews arrived at the location soon after, blocked off the area, and began working to determine the cause.
Yesterday, crews dug roughly 12 feet down and located a damaged section of pipe leading into a large culvert that was pulling soil and material away from the location and destabilizing part of the road. The pipe and culvert are believed to have been installed in 1977.
Today, crews are working to determine the best way to fix the damaged culvert and then will begin an operation to repair the culvert and the road.
