Two men, originally thought missing, now suspects in three murders

Two men, originally reported as missing, are now suspects in the deaths of Lucas Fowler and Chynna Deese near Liard Hot Springs and an as-yet unidentified man near Dease Lake.

RCMP investigators confirm that Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky have left British Columbia and have been spotted in northern Saskatchewan. Police believe the two men are likely continuing to travel, though they don’t have a possible destination. They were seen driving a grey 2011 Toyota Rav 4.

A truck and camper they two were driving was found burned south of Dease Lake July 19. The body of a man was discovered about two kilometres away. On July 15, the bodies of Fowler and Deese were found south of Liard Hot Springs. They had been shot.

Police are asking the public that if you spot Kam Mclead or Bryer Schmegelsky to consider them as dangerous, take no actions, do not approach, and call 911 immediately.

Kam McLeod is described as:

  • 6 foot 4
  • Approximately 169 pounds
  • Dark brown hair and facial hair
  • Brown eyes

Bryer Schmegelsky is described as:

  • 6 foot 4
  • Approximately 169 pounds
  • Sandy brown hair

The investigation is complex and evolving very quickly, say police. Investigators continue to follow up on tips, reviewing the physical and digital evidence collected, and share information. They once again ask the public to call us with any information. You can call the Major Crime Tipline at 1-877-543-4822 or 778-290-5291.
