Pacific Western Brewing was host to nearly 10,000 Ribfest fans over the weekend.

The Nechako Rotary Club, along with Prince George’s local brewery presented the first of it’s kind in the Prince George market and featured four of Canada’s premier Ribbers, several other food vendors, a long list of local entertainers, and a range of beverages from PWB, including beer, vodka coolers, and cider options.

“What a phenomenal weekend,” said organizer Kyle Sampson. “Prince George showed up in full force and helped make the first ever Prince George Ribfest a huge success. We have been receiving great feedback so far, and we are listening carefully to any suggestions or recommendations our fans have been making to help improve our event if we choose to do this again in the future. But overall, from an events management perspective, you really can’t ask for much more when it comes to a first time event.”

A key component to any rib festival is the judging/awards component. On Saturday afternoon, five judges took to the stage to participate in a blind taste testing of each ribber’s ribs and sauce. Sampson led the five through the anonymous tasting having each judge comment on the product in front of them each round.

The judges were given detailed criteria on how to judge each set of ribs and sauce. The results were calculated, but held in secrecy until the announcement of the People’s Choice Award on Sunday evening.

The panel of judges included; Selen Alpay of Canadian Tire, John Iverson, Chief of the Prince George Fire Rescue service, Mayor of Prince George – Lyn Hall, Warren Brown, Superintendent of the Prince George RCMP, and Lisa Redpath of the Nechako Rotary Club.

The Results are as follows;

  • 1st – Prairie Smoke & Spice
  • 2nd – Misty Mountain BBQ
  • 3rd – Gator BBQ
  • 4th – Boss Hogs

PEOPLES CHOICE AWARD: Prairie Smoke and Spice

“I am incredibly proud of our entire team at Prince George Ribfest. We had a passionate organizing committee of Rotarians led by Rachelle Delorey and Robert Quibell of the Nechako Rotary Club,” said Sampson. “We also had phenomenal volunteers who came from a wide range of organizations, such as the Rocky Mountain Rangers, Team Rubicon, The Prince George Railway Museum, the Brain Injured Group, the Canadian Ski Patrol, the folks from PG Roller Derby, Big Brothers Big Sisters Prince George, and so many more. Volunteers are integral to making an event like this happen, we couldn’t do it without them.”
