UNBC women’s soccer schedule released

The UNBC Women’s soccer team will look to keep raising the proverbial bar, coming off a second-consecutive Canada West playoff berth and first playoff win in program history. The conference released the regular season schedule for the upcoming year, and the Timberwolves will be playing 11 different opponents over 14 games this season.

The Timberwolves open the Canada West season at Masich Place Stadium welcoming the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Friday, September 5th, and the UBC Okanagan Heat on Saturday, September 7th.  The season-opener with the Pack will be a matinee matchup at 12 PM, with hopes of filling the stadium with SSD 57 students.

The first roadtrip of the year is the following weekend when the TWolves head east for matchups with the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Cougars on September 14th and 15th.

The defending Canada West champion Trinity Western Spartans will be in Prince George on Friday, October 4th. The Spartans defeated the Timberwolves 4-3 on September 22, 2018, marking the most goals TWU allowed the entire season and playoffs that saw them take the USPORTS National silver medal.

The following day, Sunday, October 6th, marks UNBC’s final home game of the season, when they play host to the UFV Cascades.

The TWolves finish off the regular season schedule on the road against a pair of perennial powerhouse programs. They visit the Victoria Vikes on October 18th, and the UBC Thunderbirds on October 19th.

Coach Neil Sedgwick’s team set program highs in goals, wins, and points in the 2018 season, but will need to continue its upward trajectory in the country’s most competitive division.

They bid farewell to all-time games played leader Madison Emmond and fifth-year defender Kylie Erb following the 2018 season, but welcome back a roster built on speed and possession. Canada West All-Star Paige Payne is back, along with fellow striker Sofia Jones. Fourth-year centreback Mara McCleary will return along with UNBC’s sole fifth-year Julia Babicz and veteran defender Ashley Volk. They are joined by a slew of first and second-year talent in Kiana Swift, Sarah Zuccaro, Lydia Lavigne, Claire Turner, Kalista Kirkness, and more.

For fans looking to catch all the action, 2019-2020 Canada West TV passes are now on sale, with the early-bird pricing available until the end of June.
