From July 11-27 the Prince George Playhouse will be host to a magical performance of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast from Judy Russell Presents.
The production features an impressive cast of over 60 local performers, as well as a large crew comprised of set builders, audio and lighting technicians, costume mistresses, stage hands, and more. Something unique for this year’s spectacular summer production is exactly who will be behind the music we all know and love.
“I am proud to announce that the Prince George Symphony Orchestra led by Maestro Michael Hall will be joining us this summer for our run of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast,” said Judy Russell, director and producer for Judy Russell Presents. “We are so lucky to have such incredibly talented people in our community. A cast of over 60, a production crew too large to count, and now the addition of the folks in the PGSO – Prince George is in for a real treat when it comes to the performance they will see this summer. It’s really important to recognize that we wouldn’t be able to have such incredible Community Theatre here in Prince George without the support of a number of amazing organizations.”
The cast, crew, and orchestra have been busy at work since late April preparing for a show they expect to be seen by thousands of theatre fans from across northern BC.
“It is such an incredible feeling for these performers to get on stage and do what they love doing, especially in front of a full and engaged audience,” said Russell. “Everyone from the orchestra, to the cast, to our crew is hard at work to make sure we bring Prince George the best production we can from the moment the curtain opens on the 11th right through to the close on the 27th.
“A production of this magnitude wouldn’t be possible without the generous support we’ve seen from our sponsors. We have seen a number of businesses in our community support these community theatre productions in the past, and we are extremely grateful for those businesses and organizations who see value in local theatre and continue to support us,” said Russell.
Canadian Tire of Prince George has stepped up as presenting sponsor of the summer production, a role they first stepped into in February of 2018 as presenting sponsor of the JRP production of Cabaret.
This summer’s production of the Disney classic has also seen the familiar support of the Treasure Cove Casino. They have come onboard to support this local production, specifically helping bring the music to life.
“All of us at Treasure Cove Casino believe that a well-rounded community has a strong current of arts flowing through it,” said Treasure Cove Casino’s Manager of Marketing, Amanda Chandler. “We are thrilled to be joining our fellow sponsors in helping bring this Judy Russell Presents production of Beauty and the Beast to fruition. When the opportunity was brought to us to support this summer’s show, we knew right away it was a perfect fit. We are in the midst of building an all new show lounge at the casino which will also add to the arts and entertainment venues in our community. This is almost like a double whammy when it comes to arts in PG. Judy Russell Presents is partnering with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra in this production. We will have the best of the best onstage when it comes to local northern talent, and we are proud to support this endeavour of bringing the Symphony lead by Maestro Michal Hall to the Prince George Playhouse, along with the cast and crew of Beauty and the Beast.”
