The UNBC Men’s Basketball team has learned the opponents standing in the way of a third consecutive playoff berth, with the release of the 2019-2020 Canada West conference schedule.
The Timberwolves begin the campaign on homecourt, playing host to the Victoria Vikes on November 1st and 2nd at the Northern Sport Centre.
The next weekend, the TWolves play on the road for the first time, visiting the Trinity Western Spartans on November 8th and 9th.
2019 wraps up in Kamloops, against perennial rival Thompson Rivers WolfPack. They will battle on November 22nd and 23rd before a break for exams and the winter holiday.
2020 will open with the Timberwolves on the road against the back-to-back Canada West champion Calgary Dinos on January 3rd and 4th.
UNBC will finish off the regular season schedule at the NSC, entertaining the MacEwan Griffins on February 8th and 9th.
Coach Todd Jordan’s TWolves welcome back 4th-year Vova Pluzhnikov, who has averaged 14 points per game each of the past two seasons. Joining him in the backcourt will be Prince George product Tyrell Laing and fifth-year sharpshooter Saje Gosal. Senior forward Anthony Hokanson returns to the frontcourt. The veterans are joined by a slew of talented youth including Spencer Ledoux, Chris Ross, Saymon Loki, Fareed Shittu, and more.
They will try to move on quickly without graduated fifth-year starters Jovan Leamy, James Agyeman, Vaggelis Loukas, and Austin Chandler.
The format of the first round of the conference playoffs remain unchanged, and will once again feature single-elimination games between the No. 5 through 12 seeds, while the top four seeds earn a bye.
The changes come in the quarter-finals and semifinals, as the two rounds have been compressed, both in terms of the number of games and weeks. Instead of best-of-three quarters and semis, both rounds will now be single-elimination games, being played the same weekend. The top two seeds will host each side of the draw, with the winners eventually meeting the following weekend in the Canada West Championship game.
Again this season, you can watch every CW basketball regular season and playoff game on Canada West TV – the official streaming home of Canada West. 2019-
2020 Canada West TV early-bird passes are on sale now.
