Northland Auto Group is helping to kick Relay For Life fundraising efforts into overdrive.

At this year’s Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life, June 8-9 at Exhibition Park, a registered participant will drive away with one of two cars donated by Northland. The winner of the June 9 draw will get his or her choice of a 2019 Nissan Micra or a 2019 Hyundai Elantra.

To qualify, every relay participant who raises $500 will receive a ballot into the draw barrel, and each additional $500 raised will equate to another ticket and another chance to win a new set of wheels.

New for 2019, Relay For Life participants can qualify for the draw up until midnight on June 8, after the always-moving luminary ceremony, which starts at 10 p.m. Saturday night.

Aimee Cassie, Annual Giving Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society and coordinator of the Prince George Relay For Life, is thankful for the ongoing involvement of local sponsors including Presenting Sponsor- Canadian Tire, and Fundraising Incentive Sponsor Northland Auto Group among others.

“We are always thrilled with the amount of support Relay receives in Prince George,” Cassie said. “It is an incredible community event and its impact goes far beyond the incredible fundraising we see every year.”

Sponsors recognize the importance of the Relay For Life in the battle against cancer and is proud to be part of the fight.

“This is one way that we can continue to encourage participants in their incredible efforts.  We are always thrilled to be a part of this event, and impressed by the dedication of the volunteers who bring it to life each year” said Peter Sia, Dealer Principal of Northland Nissan.

The 2019 Prince George Relay For Life will be the second Relay held at Exhibition Park and organizers are looking to build on last year’s success. A change this year will see the site switch to a more traditional layout. Specifically, the track will take participants on one big loop that will be easy to follow and will enhance the feeling of community and connectedness that has been key to the Prince George Relay.

Online registration for the Prince George Relay For Life – still the only 24-hour Relay For Life in Canada – is open. To register, please visit convio.cancer.ca and follow the links. Registration can also be done in person at the local Canadian Cancer Society office, found at 1100 Alward Street.

Nationwide, the Relay For Life is the Canadian Cancer Society’s largest fundraiser. Relay participants raise funds for groundbreaking cancer research, vital support services for patients and families, and much more.

Progress in the fight against cancer is being made. In the 1940s, the survival rate for Canadians with cancer was about 25 per cent. Today, more than 60 per cent of those diagnosed will survive at least five years after their diagnosis.

The Relay For Life is a chance to celebrate victories over cancer, remember those we have lost, and to fight back.
