Instructor Darcia Price’s troupe returns to the Festival after a four-year hiatus.
The festival will take place at the Heritage Park Educational & Cultural Complex in that Fraser Valley community.
The festival will offer musical entertainment throughout the venue, a kitchen providing tasty Ukrainian cuisine (perogies, cabbage rolls, etc.), displays of Ukrainian arts and crafts, vendors, a play area for the little ones, and more.
Three hundred dancers in troupes from all areas of the province will be performing adjudicated dances from all regions of Ukraine in the complex’s Clarke Theatre.
On view will be “The Hopak,” the National Dance of Ukraine. No country has a national dance as vibrant and energetic and fast-moving and colourful.
The men: floating knee-high above the floor, legs humming at hummingbird speed … arms outstretched like a soaring eagle.
The ladies: twirling in a blur, ribbons spiralling around radiant faces.
Hopak is the world’s happiest dance performance.
The ticket to get in: cheap like borshch.
