Victim Services Section of the local RCMP are looking to increase its volunteer base and will be inviting interested persons to an information night later this month.
Victim Services personnel accompany RCMP officers to sometimes devastating, brutal scenes of crime and tragedy. They provide support to the survivors and loved ones of murder, sudden death, suicide, assault, sexual assault, and motor vehicle fatalities. They attend court with victims, assist with referrals and provide the community with support when it is most needed.
“We have an amazing, close knit and dedicated team of volunteers but we are a busy unit and need to make sure we have enough people to respond to the needs of our community,” said Krista Levar, coordinator of the unit. “Volunteers who are accepted into the program are provided with extensive training and a volunteer experience unlike any other.”
An information session is being held at the Prince George Detachment April 17. Prospective volunteers are invited to attend the session and take the opportunity to meet the current volunteers, interact with the therapy dogs, take a look at the Victim Services work environment and learn a bit more about the program.
