A 56-year-old Chilcotin man is dead following a two-vehicle accident near McLeod Lake Wednesday.
Mackenzie RCMP were called out at about 6 p.m. to the crash on Highway 97 at Haight Road.
Police determined that a southbound Dodge pickup truck crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a northbound transport truck. The lone occupant of the pickup truck died as a result of the collision. The driver of the transport truck received minor injuries and transported to hospital as a precaution.
Highway 97 was closed in both directions for a number of hours as Mackenzie RCMP, Prince George Regional Traffic Services, BC Coroners’ Service, and Commercial Vehicle and Safety Enforcement (CVSE) officers investigated the cause of the collision. Road and weather conditions were reported to be good, and the collision occurred on a straight stretch in a 100 km/h zone.
Highway 97 has now fully re-opened. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call Prince George Regional Traffic Services at 250-649-4004 and quote file number 2019-158.
