Last season, Prince George Spruce Kings captain Kyle Johnson sent his team to the Fred Page Cup Finals with an overtime goal in Game 5 over the Powell River Kings.

One year later, the captain did it again.

This time it was Ben Poisson who ended Game 4 in overtime sending the Spruce Kings to the Finals for a second consecutive year at 18:09 of the first overtime, for a 3-2 win and a series sweep of the Victoria Grizzlies.

Prince George opened the scoring in the second period with a goal from Liam Watson-Brawn, who was left alone in front and slid it right between the legs of goaltender Kurtis Chapman.

The Grizzlies would get a pair of power-play goals in the middle frame from Alex Newhook to take the lead into the final frame.

In the third, Layton Ahac got a power play marker beating Chapman at 9:40, with Patrick Cozzi and Max Coyle assisting on the goal.

In the extra frame, the Spruce Kings controlled the play for long stretches and took advantage of a turnover at the blue line as Poisson brought the puck into the zone, cut left, and snapped it back past the glove to send his teammates off the bench in celebration.

The Spruce Kings will take on either the Vernon Vipers or Wenatchee Wild in the Fred Page Cup Finals. That series is currently lead by Vernon 2-1, with Game 4 on Wednesday night at Kal Tire Place.

Ticket information will be released on Friday April 5, with tickets going on sale for Games 1 and 2 on Monday April 8 at 10 a.m.
