Smithers Mayor Taylor Bachrach is throwing his hat into the federal political ring.

He announced yesterday he is seeking the NDP nomination in the riding of Skeena-Bulkley Valley. The riding is currently held by Nathan Cullen, who announced earlier this year that is not seeking re-election in the fall.

Bachrach was first elected to office in 2008 as a municipal councillor in the Village of Telkwa. In 2011, he and his family moved to Smithers and he was elected mayor. Taylor was re-elected to a third term in October 2018.

In addition to his local government role, he owns and runs Bachrach Communications, a small consultancy that provides graphic design, web development and social media services to clients ranging from small businesses to First Nations.

Bachrach holds an honours science degree in geography from the University of Victoria and a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Simon Fraser University. He is an alumnus of the 2015 Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference.

Taylor and his wife Michelle have two daughters, Ella and Maddie. As a family, they enjoy skiing, canoeing and getting around by bicycle.
