Council to ponder transit increases

Prince George city council will be considering increasing transit fees at tonight’s city council meeting.

Staff has recommended slight increases in most rate categories, estimating it would increase revenue by $107,763 (6.3 per cent) and ridership by 49,298 (three per cent).

Staff is recommending Option 1 on the following chart:

“Should no change in fare structure occur as proposed, the recovery rate will continue to quickly decline and the Prince George Transit system will not be able to continue with further improvements to the system requested from the community including improving transit users’ access to technological improvements,” reads the report to council. “These improvements would work to provide improved predictability to access the transit service and improving access to payment options to purchase fare products in a more convenient method for riders, while also reducing transfer conflicts and fare evasion by reducing the DayPASS fare to provide ease of access.”
