Megathon close to $10,000 fundraising goal

Today the YMCA of Northern BC is hosting its annual YMCA MEGATHON event from 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Prince George Family Y to raise funds for YMCA Strong Kids.

The event has nearly 100 participants of both corporate teams and individuals who are participating in fitness classes to raise money for local children. It is not too late to register. Individuals can still drop in to certain classes.

“We are tallying up totals and we are very close to our goal of $10,000 thanks to our sponsors and teams, including the Brink Group,” said Manager of Philanthropy, Stephanie Deol. “We are asking the community to join us today and make a gift to help get us there.”

The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign to ensure kids and families who have a financial need are able to access YMCA programs and services in our communities. This year, the goal is raising $60 000 for the campaign to support local children and youth to participate in YMCA camps and programs.

“This event is always so much fun,” said Deol. “It is full of energy. Exercise makes you feel good and so does making our community a better place – it’s a win-win. We are very excited to share our totals and recognize our top fundraisers later today. We are also excited to see what team takes home best costume.”

She encourages donors to visit ymca.ca/donate to donate to the campaign. The YMCA accepts donations to the campaign throughout the year.
