Water off, but repairs ongoing at site of water main break

Water is now turned off at the site of a water main break at about 4 p.m. Wednesday at 3rd Avenue and Winnipeg Street.

This is giving crews the chance to repair the water main, which was installed in 1956 and is made of cast iron, according to a statement issued by the city. Crews worked through the night, but it’s expected that water service in the area will be disrupted until this morning. The closure of Third Avenue between Prince Rupert Street and Winnipeg Street is expected to last until this evening.

Crews were on the scene to access the valves and also to remove ice and snow from catch basins to allow the water to flow down the stormwater system.
