World Para Nordic Skiing Championship get underway today

Just over three years ago, World Para Nordic Skiing, Cross Country Canada and the Canadian Paralympic Committee announced that the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club in Prince George was chosen as the host site for the 2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships.

With that announcement came the opportunity to show the world Prince George’s true spirit. Today the Prince George 2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships kick off with the opening ceremonies, at 7 p.m. at The Prince George Conference and Civic Centre. All of the teams have arrived, preparations completed, the course readied, and the racing schedule in place.

“It has been an amazing journey over the past few years and we’re so excited to see it all begin. The dream has become a fantastic reality,” said local organizing committee chair, Kevin Pettersen.

Now it is about cheering on these incredible world class athletes! The public is encouraged to attend tonight, as well as all of the free events at Otway Nordic Centre over the next 10 days.

Parking at the racing venue is limited so a free, accessible park and ride shuttle will be available February 16 – 24 from the Aquatic Centre, 18th Avenue parking lot to the Otway Nordic Centre and back. The schedule is available here: www.2019worldparanordic.ca.

The entire competition will be broadcast on the live stream at www.Facebook.com/cdnparalympics , www.CBCsports.ca (CBC Gem app), or at www.Radio-Canada.ca/sports (Radio-Canada app).
