The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club will be the presenting sponsor of the 2019 World Para Nordic Championships.
The local ski association is providing $100,000 cash to the event.
“It’s incredibly exciting to welcome the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club as the presenting sponsor for the Prince George 2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships,” said Kevin Pettersen, local organizing committee chair. “The club has done an incredible job of transforming itself into a world class facility, and now becoming the presenting sponsor allows it to become world renowned in the international spotlight. This most certainly will provide unprecedented opportunities to showcase our club and facility in order to attract other world class events. The legacies that come from these large prominent events provide tremendous benefits (e.g. snowmaking, accessibility improvements, etc). to our club, our community and our region that would not otherwise be possible. As one of the largest Nordic clubs in Canada and North America, it is certainly an exciting day to have the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club to take this leadership position on the world stage.”
The 2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championship will be held at the Otway Nordic Centre February 15-24, 2019.
“The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club has a long and proud history of promoting Nordic sports and associated competitive events,” said Caledonia Nordic Ski Club President John Huybers. “As a club, our members have fully embraced the opportunity to host the 2019 World Para Nordic Championships at our Otway Nordic Centre facility. Through strong government and corporate partnerships, we have prepared our facility for this prestigious event and worked to ensure that it is universally accessible for this event and into the future. It was a natural fit for our club and its members to take the opportunity for Caledonia Nordic to be named the presenting sponsor and welcome the world to our Otway Nordic Centre facility.”
Jim Burbee, Chief of Competition was equally pleased.
“Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is proud to be the Presenting Sponsor for the 2019 World Para Nordic Ski Championships,” he said. “Events such as this bring improvements to the club that have long lasting effects upon services the club can provide to the community and region. Our partners, sponsors and governments at all levels have provided tremendous support to the growth of facilities and services at our venue. This sponsorship demonstrates our commitment to contribute financially along with our supporters, in addition to the many volunteer commitments, to improve the sport and recreational opportunities the north.”
