Winterhawks’ special team up end Cougars

The Portland Winterhawks used their special teams to knock-off the Prince George Cougars 5-2 Friday night at the Moda Center. The Winterhawks scored twice on the power-play and added a short-handed goal, as they won their third-straight. The Cougars lost their third-straight on the road, as they opened a five-game road trip before the Christmas break. 

GAME NOTES

SPECIAL TEAMS: The Winterhawks scored two power-plays goals one minute and fifty-nine seconds apart late in the first period to break a scoreless tie. They also scored a short-handed goal in the second on a Cougars five-on-three power-play. Josh Maser and Vladislav Mikhalchuk scored the Cougars goals on the power-play.

RETURN TO PORTLAND: Connor Bowie and Ilijah Colina were held pointless in their return to Portland. The two forwards were acquired by the Cougars at the January 10thWHL trade deadline last season from the Winterhawks, in the Dennis Cholowski trade.

UP NEXT: The Cougars (11-15-1-2) conclude their double-header weekend tomorrow against the Winterhawks (17-10-0-2); the puck drops at 6 pm. Fans can listen to the game on 94.3 The GOAT, or they can watch on WHL Live PPV.
