Possible fraud artists in Fraser Lake

Fraser Lake RCMP have received several complaints of possible fraudulent activity that has been happening as of late in and around the community.

It has been reported that people have been approached on the street by individuals requesting money for gas and food. The individuals will offer jewelry in return for cash. On most reported occasions, it has been a man and woman claiming to be from out of town and need money to return  home.

They will then get the jewelry, rings, watches, or gold chains that they offer for a cash sale. The jewelry had no markings except for the rings which have a number signifying the karat of gold. It is after the purchase that the victims discover the jewelry is fake.

It is believed that the suspects are travelling in a black KIA SUV, however no plate number was obtained. The suspects did state that they needed money to return home to Ontario.

There is no evidence to suggest that the property is stolen. The RCMP are encouraging the public to be aware if approached by someone offering to sell you something and to report any suspicious behaviour to the police.

Anyone with information on this is asked to call the Fraser Lake RCMP at 250 699-7777 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222-8477
