Pedestrian recovering after being hit by truck

A teenage girl is recovering after she was hit by a vehicle early Thursday morning.

The accident occurred at about 7:10 at the intersection of 15th Avenue and Carney Street. Police say a pickup truck travelling southbound on Carney Street began turning left onto 15th Avenue when it hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The adult male driver immediately stopped and called 9-1-1.

The girl was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver was issued with a violation ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

The Prince George RCMP would like to remind drivers and pedestrians to take extra precautions when travelling in the community.  Lack of daylight and increasing inclement weather makes visibility more difficult for all road users.  Whether you are walking or driving, everyone has an obligation to keep road users safe, including yourselves.

Drivers: please slow down and keep focused on the road.  Pay particular attention to intersections.

Pedestrians: wear bright and/or reflective clothing, use flashlights and make eye contact with drivers, even when walking on a green light/walk signal.
