Brar leads Spruce Kings to 5-2 win over Smoke Eaters

Ben Brar is hotter than a firecracker these days.

The 20-year-old forward put the Prince George Spruce Kings on his back Friday night leading his team to a convincing 5-2 victory over the Trail Smoke Eaters.

Brar began the scoring 2:35 into the opening frame taking advantage of a Dylan Anhorn pass to make it 1-0.

Prince George tacked on two more before the period was done courtesy of former Smoke Eater Sean Donaldson and Brar.

Kent Johnson put Trail on the board with 17 seconds remaining in the opening 20 cutting the deficit to 3-1.

The Smoke Eaters cut the deficit to one courtesy of another goal from Bryce Anderson who completed a three-way scoring play from Johnson and Trevor Zins.

Prince George then cranked up the pressure again in the third with Brar completing the hat-trick followed by a Chong Min Lee goal with nine seconds remaining.

Logan Neaton made 15 saves in the win.

Spruce Kings outshot Trail 29-17.

The Wenatchee Wild welcomes Prince George tonight for game two of a three-game road trip at 7:05 p.m.
