Since October 8, the Prince George RCMP have received four reports of firearms being stolen from vehicles parked at or near local hotels.
Thieves are targeting vehicles that appear to belong to hunters in the hopes that their firearms are being left in the vehicles. In most cases windows are being smashed to gain access to the guns. In one case, the vehicle had been left unlocked. In all, eight long guns were stolen along with ammunition.
These thefts have each occurred at different hotels scattered throughout the community, leaving investigators to believe that no hotel is immune to these crimes. All thefts happened during the night.
Police would like to remind hunters to ensure that their firearms and ammunition are being stored properly by taking them into their hotel room for the night. Hotel staff are being asked to advise patrons to take their firearms, ammunition and anything of value into their rooms with them.
If you have any information about these thefts or those persons responsible, please contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477or online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca (English only).
