Spruce Kings win wild one in Coquitlam

Sometimes in order to get to where you’re going, taking the long way around if forced upon you.

In the case of the Prince George Spruce Kings, it meant getting their hands dirty on the road Friday during a 5-4 victory against the Coquitlam Express.

Dustin Manz and Nick Bochen busted the Spruce Kings out of the gate scoring three unanswered goals against goaltender Kolby Matthews, building up a 3-0 lead.

If you thought for a moment things would get easier, they didn’t.

The Express stormed back with three of their own courtesy of Chase Danol, Alex DiPaolo and, Regan Kimens – two of those goals came 31 seconds apart in the third period giving some adversity to Prince George goalkeeper Bradley Cooper.

Both teams continued to trade chances later on the in the frame as Ben Poisson and Connor Gregga scored once each for their respective clubs evening the game at 4-4 after regulation.

In overtime, Ben Brar finally found a stroke of luck putting home a feed from Poisson at 1:54 of overtime securing the victory for the Spruce Kings.

Prince George improves to 9-4-0-1 on the season and will continue its three-game road trip tomorrow against the Langley Rivermen.
