College Heights Secondary deals with two sudden deaths

College Heights Secondary School students and staff are dealing with the sudden death of one of the school’s students, the second in a matter of weeks.

School Principal R. Halpape, in a letter to parents Friday, said the school is doing everything it can to support students and staff and has called in the district’s critical events response team. The Centre for Learning Alternatives (3400 Westwood Drive) will be open and staffed with counsellors and community resource staff  Saturday to Monday (Oct 6, 7 and 8) from 12 pm – 4 pm. No appointment necessary.

“This is a community coordinated effort between School District 57, Prince George RCMP, Intersect, Foundry, Native Friendship Centre, and Northern Health to ensure supports and resources are available to students and families during this difficult time,” according to the school’s website.

The school will remain open next week and school and district support staff will be available.

A similar letter was sent out September 26.

The cause of death of the student has not been released.
