Windstorm knocks out power in several areas around the city

BC Hydro continues to deal with widespread power outages as a result last night’s windstorm.

As of 3;30 a.m. Hydro was still reporting at least a dozen power outages in the city and several more in rural areas. One of the power outages was caused by a large inflatable rubber duck being blown into power lines. Most, however, are likely due to downed trees.

The storm hit at about at about 7:45 p.m. and carried heavy rain plus extreme wind gusts.

Hydro tweeted last night that more than 1,000 properties were affected by the various power outages. Power is still out in many areas of the city this morning.
