North Nechako Road will be closed to traffic starting tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. until the evening of Thursday, August 23, to allow for the installation of sanitary sewer and storm drain infrastructure as part of the construction of a 28-unit housing development near Mathie Road.
The installation will require excavating to a depth of roughly five metres, which means that the resulting width of the operation will preclude traffic detouring around the site. The affected section of road will be repaved before it reopens on Thursday evening.
Barricades will be placed at North Nechako Road and Foothills Boulevard and near the Parkhill Centre and the Brewery and only local traffic will be allowed through until the operation is complete. Signs will also be placed along all routes leading to the construction area.
Two city buses will be rerouted during the operation, and will return to their normally scheduled routes after the project is finished.
The operation is being done prior to the start of the school year to avoid disrupting the upcoming increase in traffic around Cedars Christian School.
Motorists are advised to look for alternate routes and to drive with caution around road crews.
