Thirteen fires in Bulkley fire zone

As of yesterday, the BC Wildfire Service was fighting 13 fires in the Bulkley Fire Zone. One of those fires is the Pope Fire (R41980) which is burning 25 kilometres northwest of Kispiox and 35 km northwest of Hazelton.

Pope Fire is currently 140 hectares and receiving fire suppression action. 27 firefighters, with help from a helicopter and nine pieces of heavy machinery are on site.

It is producing a significant amount of smoke due to the amount of unburned fuel within the containment lines. The fire is burning within equipment-made guard that encircles the fire 100%. The lightning caused fire is not a threat to Kispiox at this time.

The community of Kispiox, located 15 kilometres north of Hazelton, is not currently in an evacuation alert.
