Guitar duo Double Helix will be playing at the Northern Lights Estate Winery on Friday, July 20, from 6-9pm.
Double Helix plays an intriguing and stimulating instrumental style that includes originals as well as jazz, Latin, and blues standards. They are repeat performers at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival who described us this way:
“Guitarist brothers Tony and Peter Chotem play lush original jazz. With tantalizing hints of rock, folk, Latin, and blues, their mix of acoustic and electric guitars is cool and inviting.”
They were nominated in the ‘Best Jazz’ category at the 2010 Barrie New Music Festival in Barrie Ontario, and to have participated at the Orion Independent Music Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah, in January, 2010.
In March 2012, they completed their first Canadian tour featuring performances in Regina, Saskatoon and Canadian Music Week in Toronto. In July 2013, they were on tour again in Ontario and Quebec, featuring some of Ottawa and Montreal’s premier jazz venues.
In 2014, Double Helix toured B.C.’s Okanagan with gigs in Kelowna, Enderby, Revelstoke, Nelson, and Princeton.
They were also thrilled to be reviewed in the 2014 November/December edition of Canadian Musician Magazine: See review at; canadianmusician.com/showcase/double–helix/
The duo’s original composition Sigrid was featured in the PBS Roadtrip Nation program, Ready To Ris, which premiered on February 12, 2016 on KQED, in San Francisco.
