Things that make me go ‘hmmm’

There are a lot of things that make me go “Hmmmm”.

Here are a few of them (some local, some more wide-ranging; some with possible answers).

  • I was driving south on Westwood behind the Prince George Golf & Curling Club, and I noticed the double left-turn lane in the centre of the road. Then I noticed that all the left turns heading south took you right into the back fence of the golf course. Hmmmmm.

  • A question I see a lot in trivia books is “Why does sour cream have an expiration date?” The best answer I’ve seen is the shortest – “You don’t want to taste sour cream that has gone bad.”

  • Why is it you can tell someone there are four billion, 362 million, five thousand and 22 stars in the universe and they will believe you, but show them a sign that says ‘Wet paint’ and they have to test it for themselves?

  • Why do some drivers who are, say, driving north on Highway 97 towards Fifth Avenue change lanes without signalling, then, after they get in the left-turn lane, put on their turn signal? You were supposed to signal the lane change, but now that you’re in a lane where you have to turn, you suddenly have the urge to let people know you are, in fact, going to turn. Hmmmmmm.

  • Why do people in Prince George still talk about the Coliseum (which has been Rolling Mix Concrete Arena for a few years now) and Overwaitea (which has been Save-On Foods for quite a while)?

  • Why do people with websites celebrating celebrities not do basic research on the celebrity? I read a book a few years ago where the author had done some checking, and found websites spelling actress Courteney Cox’s first name in 14 different ways.
