Close to 7,000 homes were without power in the Prince George area last night as a wild thunderstorm rolled through the area about 9 p.m.

About 1,500 Hydro customers in the Hart, 1,400 in Miworth, 1,000 in the Bednesti area 2,800 north of Westcreek Road were without power for several hours. A small flash flood near First and Tabor was reported on Facebook.

The good news is that the storm carried heavy rain with it as well, keeping the fire risk to a minimum.

However, the B.C. Wildfire Service reported 22 lightning-caused fires in the Prince George Fire Centre area yesterday. It’s not known if that number includes anything from last night’s storm.

To date this year, there have been 147 fires which have burned 33,359 hectares of land.
