Storm forces closure of city sports fields

Residents are advised that all city sport fields are closed due to over-saturation following last night’s storm. The closures are necessary in order to protect the turf from root damage and to prevent player injury.

Crews with the city will monitor field conditions and reopen fields once they are sufficiently dried out. The closures are not expected to be lifted until tomorrow (Friday) at the earliest.

Residents interested in the status of a field or ball diamond are asked to contact the city service centre for further information at 250.561.5600 or email: servicecentre@princegeorge.ca.

City crews continuing to clean up streets

Starting last night, city crews were on the streets clearing storm drains and removing debris. Today, crews are continuing to remove debris to prevent it from entering and clogging the city water system.

Residents are reminded that it is very dangerous to walk in large puddles and flooded areas. Overburdened water systems will often push manhole covers off of their bases, which can result in injury or death if a person steps into a manhole that could be hidden by flood water. Flood waters also often contain toxic materials that residents should avoid coming into contact with if possible.
