On Wednesday, the Prince George RCMP received a report of a telephone scam making its way through the community.
A representative from the Prince George Fire Fighters Association contacted the police to advise that their organization had received several calls from the public advising that they had each received a call they thought to be fraudulent in nature. In each case, the caller claimed to be a representative of the Prince George Fire Fighters Association and was soliciting funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Prince George Fire Fighters Association do fundraise for Muscular Dystrophy Canada, but only during the second week of September each year and only at public locations throughout the City of Prince George.
The Prince George Fire Fighters Association does not fundraise by telephone and will not call members of the public for a donation for any of the charities they support. If you receive one of these calls, please do not provide credit card information, do not wire money and otherwise do not contribute in any way to these scammers. Hang-up and report the incident to the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre at http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm.
