A 35-year-old man was arrested by Dawson Creek police after fleeing police from a crashed vehicle.
At 8:22 a.m. Tuesday, a Dawson Creek RCMP officer witnessed a crash on Highway 97 near the Dangerous Goods Route. A Chevrolet Tahoe failed to stop at a red light and t-boned a Ford F150 pickup at the intersection. No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
As the police, who were immediately on scene, approached the driver of the Tahoe, he attempted to flee the scene on foot.
The man then approached another vehicle, assaulted and forcibly removed the driver form the truck and fled the scene. When efforts to prevent the suspect from leaving failed, the police initiated a pursuit following the truck down a dead end rural road.
The suspect abandoned the truck and fled on foot. Dawson Creek police dog services were called and located the suspect hiding in the tall grass. The suspect resisted arrest and was combative with the police. The suspect received some minor injuries during the arrest and received medical attention.
The suspect is presently in police custody. The investigation is ongoing and Dawson Creek RCMP will be submitting a report to the BC Prosecution Service for review.
Anyone who may have witnessed this, or has information that will aid in the investigation are asked to call the Dawson Creek RCMP at 250 784-3700 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222-8477
