Farrell Street evacuation alert rescinded

The City of Prince George has rescinded its evacuation alert for Farrell Street residents due to lowering river levels at South Fort George and decreasing flood risk.

Currently, the BC River Forecast Centre estimates that the level of the Fraser River near Farrell Street is just above eight metres and forecasts that it will drop further through the rest of the week. Flooding typically occurs in this area at around 9.4 metres.

As the threat of rising rivers has not yet completely passed, all of the gabion diking that has been installed will remain in place for the time being.

Paddlewheel Park, the island in Cottonwood Island Nature Park, and sections of the Heritage River Trail near the rivers will remain closed out of an abundance of caution.
