Have a Whale of a Time at Pine Centre Mall

Pine Centre Mall has partnered with Spruce City Wild Life (SCWA) and REAPS to bring a fun and interactive event to the mall June 8-10 to help educate adults and children about salmon, whales and most importantly, the conservation of the two.

Shoppers are invited to lend a hand in assembling/replacing the bones of a 25X15 foot female offshore killer whale skeleton coming to here from Strawberry Island Marine centre from Tofino. While assembling, participants will learn about killer whale anatomy, ecology and conservation.

Spruce City Wildlife will be also be at the mall with live salmon and other wildlife to discuss salmon conservation. This is especially important because the whales that eat this salmon have been added to the endangered species list because salmon aren’t making it to the ocean like they used to, hence the need to generate more awareness on the topic. Shoppers will learn about the impact pollution has on the salmon and whale populations.

June 8 there will be mostly students at the presentations, as mall staff have invited all schools in and around Prince George including home schools, but Saturday and Sunday are first come first serve and open to anyone to participate during the scheduled times.

Not only do shoppers get this rare opportunity but this multi-faceted event involves giving away over $7,000 in prizes, 1,000 goodie bags with treats and gift certificates inside, and if the shoppers #whaleofatimeatpine they are entered to win an all expenses paid visit to Tofino for a weekend of whale watching (family of four).

June 8: 10 a.m. (session full), 11:30 a.m. (session full), 1 p.m., 2 p.m.

June 9: noon, 2 p.m., 4 p,m,
