A couple of new fires were sparked in the Prince George Fire Centre area yesterday, the largest being the 875-hectare Kahta Creek fire, approximately 190 kilometres northwest of Fort St John.

The B.C. Wildfire Service has that fire listed as ‘out of control’ and the cause is not yet known.

Lightning sparked a fire in the Beatton Creek area and it is now at 150 hectares in size.

Unseasonably hot and dry conditions in northeastern B.C. along with recent lightning activity have led to a number of major fires breaking out in the Peace region over the weekend.

The B.C. Wildfire Service is urging area residents to monitor the Peace River Regional District website at https://prrd.bc.ca/ for further information and www.bcwildfire.ca for the most up to date fire information.
