When can a selfie be worth $500 in merchandise?

When you’re a competitor in the Iron Ore Classic bodybuilding competition.

If you think your six-pack has what it takes, enter competition and start snapping selfies that help promote the event’s sponsors and you could be a winner.

“We want to make sure people are aware of the sponsors, what they do, and where they are, and how we can support them so they can continue to support us and our athletes,” says Karley Green, Iron Ore Classic organizer.

The rules are pretty simple. Once you’ve signed up for the Iron Ore Classic, take selfies, or even short videos, and tag the local sponsors. You’ll get points for tagging the sponsors. You’ll get even more points if you take your selfie at the sponsor’s place of business or showing off their products.

“We want to make it known that businesses who support athletes, support our community,” says Green.

The Iron Ore Classic is set for September 22 at Vanier Hall. Ten days prior to that, Green will tally up all the results from the selfie contest and the winners, male and female, will be announced at the event.

The male winner will receive a stage photo shoot, the female winner a stage video shoot. Both will receive a $100 gift certificate from Absolute Touch, an assortment of Magnum products, and gift bags from Reflex.

“These athletes are working really, really hard but they love their sport and are sharing the creativity of it,” says Green.

And, she stresses, the selfie contest is a big shout-out to the sponsors who make it possible to put on the show. Green says the show costs $28,000 to host, not including the major gift bags which are each worth between $300 and $500.

The event has some of the largest prizes in the province. There are two $1,000 sponsorships … one male, one female … plus there is an early bird prize of $500, just for entering early.

“That could cover your hotel or spray tans, your stage shots, your stage videos, all of that,” says Green. “We couldn’t have those prizes and our swag bags without our sponsors.”

So enter the Iron Ore Classic today and start snapping your selfies. Once you do, just use one of the following tags to win:
