Open mic discussion set for Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion project

Want to talk about Kinder Morgan’s TransMountain pipeline?

The Stand Up for the North Committee is holding an ‘open mic’ discussion on the project April 24.

It’s the second in the committee’s series of regular “open microphone” discussion meetings in which various topics of public interest will be discussed.

Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion project

The Kinder Morgan corporation plans to build a second pipeline alongside its existing Trans Mountain pipeline.  The aim is to transport diluted bitumen from Alberta through B.C. to tidewater and then load it onto tankers in Burnaby for shipment abroad.  This plan has generated much debate, both for and against.

For its part, the Stand Up for the North Committee believes that such projects require consent of the people impacted, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous which, so far, has not been achieved.

“Whatever may be our opinions, as British Columbians, we need a place to talk about this important issue,” says Peter Ewart, event organizer. “Come out and express your views.”

The format for these meetings will be a short presentation on the topic, followed by an ‘open mic’ session where everyone will have an opportunity to speak, no matter their point of view or political persuasion.  Snacks will be available.
