Spruce Kings down 2-0 in series coming home


The Prince George Spruce Kings struck first Saturday night, but couldn’t contain Wenatchee as the Wild posted a 4-2 win to take a 2-0 lead in the Fred Page Cup championship series.

Blake Howard got the Spruce Kings on the board early in the first period on an unassisted goal at 4:58.

AJ Vanderbeck and Lucas Sowder responded for Wenatchee before the period was out. Vanderbeck added another in the second as Wenatchee opened up a 3-1 lead going in the third.

Howard got his second of the game at 6:08 of the third to get the Spruce Kings back in the game.

Jasper Weatherly sealed for the Wild with an empty-net goal with 44 seconds left in the third.

The two teams resume the series Monday night in Prince George. Game time is 7 p.m.
