Powell River wins Game 3 in double OT thriller

The Prince George Spruce Kings fought tooth and nail on Monday to earn a stranglehold in their Coastal Conference Championship series against the Powell River Kings but it just wasn’t meant to be on Monday.

Ben Berard beat Spruce Kings goaltender Evan DeBrouwer at 13:40 of double overtime to give the Kings a 3-2 victory over Prince George from the Hap Parker Arena.

Powell River got on the board in the first period scoring 14 seconds apart courtesy of Kevin Obssuth and Neal Samanski.

The Spruce Kings got back in it early in the second when Jay Keranen ripped home a point shot past Powell River goaltender Mateo Paler-Chow.

Kyle Johnson then tied it up in the third period, deflecting a shot from Ethan de Jong.

The best-of-seven series is at 2-1 for Prince George with game four set for Tuesday in Powell River.

Game five will be played Thursday night at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena with puck drop at 7 p.m.

You can listen to Tuesday’s game on 93.1 CFIS FM with Ron Gallo doing the play-by-play.
