Vehicle robbery suspect arrested

One person has been charged and a stolen vehicle has been recovered following a robbery yesterday morning.

Just after 6 a.m., the Prince George RCMP received a report of a robbery outside a residence near the corner of Redwood Street and Strathcona Avenue.  Apparently two masked men forcibly stole cash and a vehicle from man in the area.  The victim ran to a nearby convenience store and called police.

The initial search for the vehicle was unsuccessful.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, a member of the Prince George RCMP’s General Duty Section attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car near the corner of Malaspina Avenue and Domano Boulevard.  The driver ignored police emergency equipment and failed to stop.  The officer did not pursue.

A few minutes later, the suspect vehicle was located near the corner of Cowart Road and Highway 16 West and another attempt to pull the vehicle over was made.  This time the driver pulled over.  A 35-year-old man was behind the wheel and there were two women, aged 35 and 37, in the vehicle.  The vehicle was confirmed to be the stolen car from the previous morning.  All three were taken into custody without incident.

Boyd Allison Mattess, of Prince George, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.  The two women were released without charge.
