Citizen alerts police to suspected impaired driver

A suspected impaired driver was apprehended Tuesday after a report of a semi with loose bales of hay.

RCMP got the call at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. A concerned citizen noticed a commercial vehicle hauling large bales of hay and it appeared the load was not secure.

North District Traffic Services member located the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 16 in the city. Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE) officers were called out to inspect the load.

When the police officer spoke with the driver he noticed signs of impairment. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and issued violation charges under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act. The tractor trailer unit has been impounded as per the rules and regulations of the immediate roadside prohibition process. CVSE inspected the load and found that it met the load securement requirements.
